Today is a very important day in my step in my journey to get healthy. It’s the last day I consume energy drinks and attempt to get off them, or at least decrease my consumption.
I started down the energy drink path about two years ago. I was out somewhere and I saw someone with a pink and black Monster can. I never tried any drinks but I really wanted to try it. I learned that this was the Pink Lemonade Monster Rehab that was just being released into the area. I don’t remember where I found a can (most likely either at Target or a local 7Eleven), but when I drank one I was pleased with the taste. I was already a bit sensitive to caffeine, avoiding most sodas and coffee, so when I ingested that Monster Rehab I felt the extra punch.
In the beginning, I limited my consumption to one every couple weeks. But then it was one every week. Over time, it became a few cans a week and I would make sure that I would keep stock in my refrigerator. I also branched out into other energy drinks like limited edition Red Bull flavors (Wild Cherry mainly-wasn’t a fan of original Red Bull flavors) and Rockstar Punched (Limeade and Fruit Punch flavors). And because of the consumption my tolerance increased so I needed more in order for caffeine to affect me.
I fast forward to today where I drank a 24 oz can of Rockstar Punched and consumed 360 mg of caffeine; according to CaffeineInformer.com that is A LOT. Call it paranoia, but I’ve always been nervous hearing about people dying due to caffeine overdose. I also didn’t feel better watching True Life: I’m Addicted to Caffeine online. I see my dependence on these drinks growing and I want to stop it.
So, goodbye 16oz can of energy drinks for the time being. We will meet again in the future, but now I must bid you farewell. Till we meet again, dear friend…
