Everyone seems to talk about eating really healthy and cutting out bad foods in order to have successful weight loss. For me, I know it’s not a good idea to cut out these bad foods for the rest of my life. I’m not trying to lose weight short-term just to gain in back months later but rather knowing how to handle those foods in moderation. Or even better-look at ways to make these “bad” foods good.
From what I’ve read and experienced throughout the years is that cutting those foods out of your diet completely isn’t good in the long run. I have a killer sweet tooth not to mention I love chocolate. I don’t plan on getting rid of either two for the rest of my life. Instead, I’ve made a small list of “bad” foods that somehow fit into my weight loss efforts:
Chocolate milk: I like to drink this as an afternoon snack. Because I only have this on occasion I’ll splurge and get whole chocolate milk. I’ve even gotten into Fairlife as a “leaner” snack
Ready meals: These can be a super cheap version of fast food. I like these because their portion controlled. Because of the sodium intake, I try to only have a couple of these a week. I normally go for whatever is on sale that week but my preference in ready meals are Lean Cuisine, Smart Ones, and Healthy Choice
Grape jelly & strawberry preserves: I like to have these on hand for sandwiches and other kinds of bread. This is one of those foods where I read the nutrition label carefully. Instead of having the full serving size I have half. For example, I have a ½ tablespoon of strawberry preserves instead of 1 TBSP. I usually go for Welch’s Natural Concord Grape Spread and Natural Strawberry Spread
Mini version of novelty ice cream: It’s going back to that sweet tooth/chocolate addiction of mine. I always feel the need to have dessert after a large meal. There’s a special place in my childhood for extra special treats after a big Sunday dinner. But to avoid a big bowl of ice cream or large slice of cake, I like to reach for miniature versions of ice cream treats like Snickers and Dove Dark Chocolate. These are great because I never eat the full serving size. I normally have half of this suggested serving size and I feel that’s enough!
