Thank you for stopping in! I can’t believe that 2016 is coming to a close in just a matter of days. Without even thinking about my health and wellness this year has been an extremely rough one in general and I know that I am not the only person that can attest to this.
In regards to health and wellness I can say that I have tried harder this past year to live a healthier and more balanced life, however, stress and several personal obstacles really got in my way of being consistent. I had a few wins so I am feeling confident going into the new year knowing that I can do better.
- I lost 12lbs this year. That may not be a lot but my weight fluctuated a lot with the health issues and stress that I have been going through. At the end of the day I see it as a win – regardless of how small it is.
- I lowered my A1C level. By being more selective and eating less carbs and sugary foods/snacks as well as consistently taking my medication I was able to lower my HbA1c Level from 10.1 to 7.4 HbA1c or Glycated hemgloban blood tests measures the average level of blood glucose (sugar) in your system over a 3 month period. HbA1c levels are usually scored from 4.0 to 14.0 with 4.0 to 6.0 being excellent, 7.0 to 8.0 being good and 9.0+ being poor or “bad”. If you are diabetic it is usually suggested to have 6.5 or lower. I’m hoping to get to the 5.0 – 6.0 range by the middle of 2017.
- I increased my step count. Christmas 2015 my sister got me a Fitbit Zip for Christmas because she knew I wanted to start being healthier. What I love about it is that it keeps me accountable – mainly because I enjoy doing step “challenges” with my friends and family every week. It is fun to see who can get the most steps in. Ever since I got my fitbit I realize that I will purposely park farther, take more walks or just walk in general because it feels great for my body and I also get my steps in for the day! I hope to increase my daily steps significantly in the next couple of months as I revamp my exercise routine.
I hope that all of you are having a wonderful holiday season and have a beautiful and safe New Years. Here’s to another year of wins! Don’t forget to let us know about your wins for the year in the comments.
